The Belt Man story
The Belt Man began at Beef Week in Rockhampton nearly 20 years ago. Michael had gone along to promote his leathercraft when a customer asked whether he could make a belt while he watched. As Michael worked, another customer joined the queue, then another. The idea for The Belt Man was born: quality leather belts made in front of the people who would wear them.
Michael built workbenches and a travelling display, then took the belts to shows across eastern Australia. At the Brisbane Ekka, customers loved choosing their leather, matching it with a buckle and watching their belt take shape. Together with Katrina, he spent more than 20 years building The Belt Man and meeting customers at agricultural field days and country shows.
In 2026, Michael and Katrina handed The Belt Man over to BeltUp Leather Co, a Brisbane leather belt business with its own in-house workshop. We’re grateful for what they created and proud to carry it forward.
The experience at the heart of The Belt Man remains simple: choose a leather strap and a buckle you like, and have a belt made to fit. We use solid leather for our handmade belts, with screw-on buckles that can be changed or removed when a belt needs resizing.
